چکیده

A 32 by 32 array of packaged 100 μm Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes were tested and characterized. A breakdown voltage of 32 V was measured; at or just above this voltage is where the device should be biased in order to operate in Geiger-mode. The ideal region of the forward biased IV curve resulted in an ideality factor of 1.0 and no recombination/generation region. In addition, IDL code was written to acquire, analyze and reduce an afterpulsing experiment. After looking at the data no afterpulsing was seen in this device. This can be attributed to the fact that there is no recombination/generation region meaning there are a minimal amount of traps in the device.

Advanced European Infrastructures for Detectors at Accelerators Journal Publication A test beam set-up for the characterization of the Geiger-mode avalanche photodiode technology for particle tracking

It is well known that avalanche photodiodes operated in the Geiger mode above the breakdown voltage offer a virtually infinite gain and time accuracy in the picosecond range that can be used for single photon detection. However, their performance in particle detection still remains unexplored. In this contribution, we are going to expose different steps that we have taken in order to prove the ...

Geiger-Mode Avalanche Photodiode Arrays Integrated to All-Digital CMOS Circuits

This article reviews MIT Lincoln Laboratory's work over the past 20 years to develop photon-sensitive image sensors based on arrays of silicon Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes. Integration of these detectors to all-digital CMOS readout circuits enable exquisitely sensitive solid-state imagers for lidar, wavefront sensing, and passive imaging.

A Geiger-mode avalanche photodiode array for X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy.

X-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS) provides an opportunity to study the dynamics of systems by measuring the temporal fluctuations in a far-field diffraction pattern. A two-dimensional detector system has been developed to investigate fluctuations in the frequency range of several Hz to kHz. The X-ray detector system consists of a thin 100 microm scintillation crystal coupled to a Gei...

Multi-pixel Geiger mode imager for medical application

Nowadays, there are two types of sensors to detect the low luminous flux, PMT (Photomultiplier Tube) and Geiger-APD (Geiger Avalanche Photodiode). The domain of Geiger-APD has reached an advanced development in the last years. The basic idea of this structure consists in polarizing an APD in Geiger-mode by applying a voltage beyond its breakdown voltage. In this case of polarization, the APD is...

Characterization of a novel avalanche photodiode for single photon detection in VIS-NIR range.

In this work we investigate operation in the Geiger mode of the new single photon avalanche photo diode (SPAD) SAP500 manufactured by Laser Components. This SPAD is sensitive in the range 400-1000 nm and has a conventional reach-through structure which ensures good quantum efficiency at the long end of the spectrum. By use of passive and active quenching schemes we investigate detection efficie...
